Ruffin Hall
The construction of Ruffin Hall, the new home of the McIntire Department of Art’s studio art program, marks the first time all of the program’s concentrations are together in one building. Faculty in each area of study—drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, new media and film, installation, and performance art—worked with Schwartz/Silver Architects of Boston to create the state-of the-art, three-story, 42,000-square-foot facility. Ruffin Hall opened just a few days before fall classes began in 2008.
Arts Grounds & BuildingsCompletion of the Arts Grounds project will create a vibrant new hub of intellectual and imaginative activity near the historic heart of the University. To address issues of insufficient teaching and rehearsal space and limited performance venues, the University has developed an overall plan for the Arts Grounds, encompassing new, expanded, and renovated structures for the fine and performing arts.
