Charlie Chaplin in The Immigrant

The Virginia Film Festival

The Virginia Film Festival, which recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary, is now housed in the College’s newly created Department of Media Studies. This festival, whose guest artists have included Anthony Hopkins, Sigourney Weaver, and Morgan Freeman, is focused around a themed, intellectual core. The festival includes more than seventy screenings; a producer’s forum; panel discussions involving producers, actors, writers, directors, and scholars; and the popular Adrenaline Film Project, in which local filmmakers, including U.Va. students, write, shoot, and edit a film over the three days of the festival.

The investment in the arts by the College of Arts & Sciences ensures that the Festival is fully integrated into the undergraduate experience, including bringing film scholars to Grounds and continuing to expand and build the film curriculum.

Funding is needed for Festival Fellows, equipment, operations, and the Adrenaline Film Project.
