Campaign for the Curry School of Education
Phase II - Discover. Create. Change.

Imagine a public education system in which…

  • Every classroom has a teacher who provides a positive classroom environment and actively engages all students in learning.
  • Every student has an equal opportunity to master not only basic skills but the communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills they will need for success in a digital and diverse society.
  • Every school administrator knows how to engender effective learning environments and possesses the management skills to support change and growth.
  • Every school fosters development of the whole child, rather than focusing solely on academic skills.
  • Every educational policy and public financial investment is based on evidence that it will support successful learning outcomes for students.

This vision for America’s schools builds on and extends the dreams of Thomas Jefferson, who sought “to provide an education adapted to the years, to the capacity, and the condition of every one, and directed to their freedom and happiness.”

For more than 100 years, the Curry School of Education has worked to advance Thomas Jefferson’s vision for public education as a means to enhance the quality of life for all citizens. That vision takes shape today in the Curry School’s commitment to learning – a commitment to discover innovative educational strategies, to create new knowledge through research, and to prepare professionals who will catalyze change in American public schools.

This country faces formidable challenges. Economic, racial, cultural, and social disparities are pushing us toward a two-tier society while, academically, we have fallen behind peers in other countries. Our schools, once a source of national pride, are failing underserved children who most need them. Too many of our public school students are entering the workforce unprepared to succeed in a global economy.

Situated in Mr. Jefferson’s university, the Curry School is uniquely positioned to contribute new ideas and solutions to these challenges. We have an eminent faculty whose expertise spans the spectrum of education-related disciplines, and our teacher education programs are ranked consistently in the top 10 by U.S. News & World Report. We are grounding our work in the best scientific thinking and evidence, so the knowledge and innovations we produce have lasting and demonstrable effects.

After a successful beginning to the Campaign for the Curry School in which we raised nearly $40 million dollars for a new education building, we turn in this second campaign phase to leveraging our expertise across the nation and beyond. We are marshaling our efforts around five priority areas that will ultimately impact the learning opportunities available to students in America's public schools:

Effective Teaching

21st-Century Learning

Health and Well-Being

Leadership

Public Policy

With your support we will continue to discover innovative tools and strategies for improving the academic and emotional well-being of every child and to create new knowledge about effective teaching and learning through our research. This knowledge will then be the power by which we will compel change in educational policy and practice across the nation and the world.

Invest in the Curry School

In this second phase of the Campaign for the Curry School of Education, we invite you to invest in a new era of discovery and innovation in education. Fifteen million dollars is an ambitious goal – more than the Curry School has ever tried to raise for people and programmatic needs. Without it, we cannot make the impact we envision. With your investment, the Curry School will change teaching, will change learning, and will change the ways teachers, counselors, scholars, and educational leaders are prepared for their professions.
