Campaign Priorities

To reconfigure the University to meet the local, national, and global needs of the 21st century, and to become one of the world's great public institutions, the University has set these priorities:

Student Experience

The University prepares students with the knowledge they need to realize their potential and serve as leaders. Graduates must function globally and locally—while meeting the needs of an increasingly multidisciplinary world that expects mastery of complex skills. Funding for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, public service and study abroad opportunities, leadership programs, and financial aid will enable the University to meet the demands of our society’s future leaders.

Science & Technology

To be a national leader in science and technology, and influence related policy making, the University must invest in its science and engineering programs. Two initiatives—hiring and cultivating extraordinary scientists, and providing needed state-of-the-art research buildings—are the core of the University’s plan to build excellence in the sciences, as befitting a major research university.

Global Programs

To equip students for success in the global economy and prepare them for public life, the University must make internationalization even more central to its identity. U.Va. must continue to engage in international activities and augment resources that make global studies and service more accessible to all of the University community. The University also must continue working to make the Grounds a welcoming place for study, learning, and living for international students and scholars.

Arts

The University is creating a new environment for the arts on the Grounds. U.Va. envisions facilities and programs that inspire students and faculty to do their best work and that give every student the opportunity to make the arts an integral part of the University experience. Private resources will be required to raise the level and quality of support for our already successful arts programs.

Health

Comprising the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, the Medical Center, and the Health Sciences Library, the U.Va. Health System advances the missions of patient care, education, research, and public service. Along with the the breadth and depth of its expertise, the Health System's strengths lie in the basic sciences, which play an increasing role in developing individualized treatment for diseases, and in research aimed at changing healthcare practice. As the Campaign for Health progresses, it will be critical to invest in faculty and staff recruitment as well as in other areas.
