Alderman Road, “New Dorms” Commemorative Brick CampaignBalz Hall before demolition

The residential experience at the University of Virginia is a defining aspect of what it means to have attended the University. Many alumni feel a close connection with those that shared this experience and have many fond memories of their time in residence. As the University has grown over the years, the need for larger and more accommodating facilities has become apparent.

As part of the Alderman Road Residence Hall Renewal Project, Dobie, Balz, and Watson Houses, will be taken off line and replaced with new, state of the art residence halls starting Summer 2009. (View video of the demolition) Recognizing the historic and emotional value these building have for many of our alumni we want to make sure the buildings live on even after they are replaced.

A limited number bricks from each residence hall will be specially prepared and offered to alumni who make a philanthropic contribution to Student Affairs.

Commemorative Brick DisplayContributions of $200 or more to the Student Life and Leadership fund will have the opportunity to reserve a brick while supplies last.

Your generous support will go directly to Student Affairs and assist in funding programs and services that directly benefit students and the student experience at U.Va.

Gifts and brick reservations will now be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Requests for bricks will be accepted while supplies from each residence hall are available.
